Welcome to the North West Area of NAFAS
Welcome to our website, which you may have found as you search to find out more about flower arranging in the north west of England. Throughout this site you will find all the information you need regarding floral art in this area, which covers the counties of Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, part of Greater Manchester and the Isle of Man.
We are passionate and dedicated to the promotion of flower arranging within the community. Our clubs offer a friendly place for men and women of all ages, who are interested in learning more, and when they visit our clubs they will find a warm welcome and a helping hand.
In fact, there are more than floral art 70 clubs in The North West Area and there is sure to be one near you. Click on a region on the map to find your nearest club and details of their events.
Most clubs meet once a month and you are welcome to visit to see what is on offer and hopefully join us as a member. There is a wealth of talent within the clubs offering helpful advice, whether you are a beginner wanting to learn or a more experienced flower arranger. In fact, if you just want to watch the wonderful demonstrations then that is reason enough to visit.
The floral art clubs pay host each month to talented demonstrators who delight the audience as they produce breathtaking floral displays. This is where the inspiration flows and the latest skills and techniques are passed on for everyone to enjoy. At the end of the demonstration these designs are raffled to raise funds for the club ~ it’s such a delight to win one!
In addition you will find each club organises visits to gardens of special interest, flower shows, national competitions etc. There are also workshop days which are a “hands-on” opportunity for a chance to be tutored in the art of Flower Arranging by the experts and are always a lovely social event. The workshops cover many interesting topics from Floristry techniques, Christmas decor, Wedding arrangements, Craftwork, Traditional & Contemporary work. The number of workshops (and their scope) has increased over the years due to popularity for members and because they offer a great day out at an economical cost.
The North West Area has many Special Events throughout the year which are detailed on this website.
Enormous success for The North West Area competitors at NAFAS National Show, Harrogate in July 2010
I would like to congratulate all the exhibitors from the Area, award winners or not, for taking part and supporting our National Show. There was not one design that didn’t stand up to close scrutiny, simply stunning work! Once again we picked up numerous awards, many congratulations go to all award winners, we had that many but I would just like to point out a few successes:
· Ann Coulton is no stranger to success, a fantastic competitor, and already a winner of the prestigious Gold Ribbon, who once again received the Runner Up to Best in Show award.
· The Area class entitled ‘I See the Garden as...’ was arranged by John Thexton and John Dalton from Scaleby and District Flower Club, a most beautiful pedestal creation with moody colouring, although only winning a well deserved Commended award it was adjudged to be the best exhibit in the whole show for garden flowers, and picked up the Best Garden Flowers trophy
· Well done to first prize winners in their respective classes: Tom Hodge, Jane Burns, Jean Daniels, Bett Wareing and Margaret Whittaker
· Our juniors from the Isle of Man Junior Flower Club picked up a truly remarkable nine awards in all - well done!
· Not only did we have the the best flowers but the best foliage too. David Ryland was awarded the Robert Gibbs trophy for the best use of foliage in the show for his pedestal in the class entitled ‘Back in Circulation’
But there’s more! The new 50th Anniversary Award, presented last year by the retiring National Chairman, Mrs Valerie Best, for the Area of NAFAS with the most awards went to us too!
Now isn’t all this just the invitation that you need to come on down to St Georges Hall in Liverpool, from September 3rd to the 5th, for a truly amazing spectacle of exhibits - just dripping and drooling with style and panache. Please come, you won’t be disappointed, and you’ll be helping us to fundraise for next year when The North West Area represents NAFAS at Chelsea 2011.
I apologise now if I’ve missed anyone out, I am really proud of you all!
