Accrington Flower and Garden Club
About us:
Accrington Flower Club was started in 1969. We are a small club but we are enthusiastic and very friendly. There is a strong working committee and a wonderful programme of demonstrations is planned each year. We also take part in local church and Area festivals and promote flower arranging whenever we can. In 2011 we took part in the NAFAS Area festival at Hoghton Towers. This year we have been asked to arrange the flowers in Accrington Town Hall for the Mayor’s inauguration and the Jubilee celebrations.
Many of our members are keen gardeners, this is reflected in our name. Our programme always includes a gardening evening when we invite a speaker from a local nursery or garden centre and we have the opportunity to buy unusual plants. One year we had a fascinating and amusing talk on slugs!
In addition to our demonstrations we make sure we have a number of outings each year. These are open to members' friends and to other clubs in the area and are very popular. Over the years we have visited Area festivals, flower shows, gardens and garden centres and other places of interest. Highlights include the Wedgwood factory, the Settle Carlisle railway trip and visits to Highgrove and George Smith's garden in York.
Meetings are held at 7.30pm in the Schoolroom, Antley Methodist Church, Blackburn Road, Church, Nr. Accrington, (don’t go in the church, the male voice choir meet there!); with the exception of the Open demonstration in November 2012, which is actually in the Church.
Meetings are the 3rd Tuesday every month except July and December, at 7.30 p.m. If you need more information please email us with your contact details and we will be pleased to help.
