Ambleside & District
About us:
The Flower Club was started in 1983 by Dorothy Foster and 'Students'. After a couple of years of flower classes and a full waiting list at the Lakes Flower Club it was decided that it would be interesting to take the classes a step further.
Eva Gardner from The Lakes Club was a great help and after our inaugural meeting 8 members joined and Nora Ainscow did our first demonstration. Dorothy Foster was our first Chairman and Shirley Todd the Secretary, our first committee served very enthusiastically as slowly the membership built up. We still have a number of founder members attending regularly. Our first festival was held at Rydal Mount and we raised £500 for the Save the Children Charity, more recently five members enjoyed doing flowers at Bowes Museum in County Durham.
We always hold our meetings on the fourth Tuesday of the month and most meetings are at the Charlotte Mason College, now part of the University of Lancaster. In July we usually visit a garden and go on for supper afterwards, in November we have our Christmas meal at a local hotel. Our December meeting is when we like to invite friends to join us for the demonstration, wine and mince-pies.
We are always pleased to see visitors at the club, and if you are on holiday when we have our meeting we would be pleased to see you for the evening. Barbara (
