Burnley Flower and Garden Club

About us:

Burnley Flower Club was formed in 1958 so in September 2008 we had our Golden Anniversary.  We held a lovely dinner at Burnley Masonic Hall and one of our Founder members was able to attend.

We hold our meetings on the first Monday of each month at 7.30 at Central Methodist Church which is conveniently situated in the town centre. Our members enjoy the demonstrators who give us so much pleasure and information as we watch them creating their designs.

We are a friendly club having a variety of activities and outings throughout the year and welcome new members and visitors. We have an exciting and varied programme planned for 2011.

The good start we made to our year continued with a fairly new demonstrator  Alison Cooper  she was excellent and greatly enjoyed by members. April brought us Veronica Southern now established, we had her first demonstration some years ago, enjoyable and exuberant with lovely arrangements.

Phil Dunnit from Ribblesdale Nursery came in May and showed us how to choose plants suitable for different areas of the garden. Liz Broad completed the first half of our years programme with a gorgeous  array of flowers and arrangements.

We were again fortunate with the weather for our summer outing to Whalley Abbey. A guided tour of the woodland and garden by head gardener Roy was full of surprises iteresting and unusual trees and plants we only got caught in one brief, light shower and were sheltered by the trees. We then enjoyed supper in the Abbey.

On July 4th we had afternoon tea at Tan Cottage the home of Rosemary and Roger Taylor. The weather was kind to us,it was a beautiful afternoon and many members enjoyed sitting in the gorgeous garden having a lovely tea and chatting. We also had a visit from Gillian Platt, it was a great way to spend a summers afternoon amongst good company and fabulous flowers.

The year continued with some excellent demonstations and social events.

The AGM was held on the 21st of November and it was confirmed that the name of the club will now be Burnley Flower and Garden Club. Alice Binns was confirmed as Chairman of the club for the next twelve months.

We were sorry to hear of that Ken Hough is not well and is not able to do our Christmas demonstration, Don Billington has kindly taken his place so we look forward to a good evening on the 5th of December and send Ken best wishes for a speedy recovery.
