Cartmel & District Flower Club
About us:
The village of Cartmel is situated in the south of the Lake District, just outside the National Park.
Cartmel Flower Club was founded over 40 years ago and meets on the third Monday in the month at 2.00 p.m. in the Village Hall next to the Racecourse. Exceptions are in May and December, when an Evening Gala is held at Victoria Hall, Grange-over-Sands, and in January when when club members enjoy a post-Christmas Luncheon.
Members are both those with a love of flowers and plants and those extremely talented members who enter - and win - local and national competitions.
Membership subscription is £25.00 per annum. At the September meeting membership subscription is half price at £15.00 for the rest of the year.
Visitors, local or holiday makers, are welcome to join us to share a pleasant afternoon's entertainment. A small charge of £4 is made for this.
We have always been an active Club gaining many medal/trophy successes at prestigeous shows over the past years. Members are encouraged to take part in the monthly club competitions, progressing to entries in the local shows as confidence increases.
This year, 2011 the Club entry was placed third at Holker Garden Festival. At the Rose Show the team were very pleased to gain first in the Club class.
Members enjoyed taking part at Cartmel Agricltural Show, staging several entries in each class of the Floral Art Competition. In what used to be the Club Class two of our members took 1st and Best in Show. In the other classes Club members did exceedingly well. This is the local show and the Club is pleased to give whole hearted support to it.
One of our most noteable members and demonstrator's is David Ryland who has recently been Chairman of The North West Area of NAFAS. The Club also has several other members who demonstrate. Joan Bentley is held in high esteem and is a very popular demonstrator, she never ceases to amaze us all with her energy and enthusiasm. Rosemary Scholes is also a very talented demonstrator and a popular and energetic member of the Club.
The Club has much to look forward to in September with our team for Hoghton Tower being led by Rosemary Scholes. The whole Club is very much looking forward to this event and also our Gala night in December.
