Cartmel & District Flower Club
About us:
The village of Cartmel is situated in the south of the Lake District, just outside the National Park.
Cartmel Flower Club was founded over 40 years ago and meets on the third Monday in the month at 2.00 p.m. in the Village Hall next to the Racecourse. Exceptions are in May and December, when an Evening Gala is held at Victoria Hall, Grange-over-Sands, and in January when when club members enjoy a post-Christmas Luncheon.
Members are both those with a love of flowers and plants and those extremely talented members who enter - and win - local and national competitions.
Membership subscription is £23.00 per annum. At the September meeting membership subscription is half price at £11.50 for the rest of the year.
Visitors, local or holiday makers, are welcome to join us to share a pleasant afternoon's entertainment. A small charge of £3 is made for this.
We have always been an active club gaining many medal/trophy successes at prestigeous shows over the past years. Members are encouraged to take part in the monthly club competitions, progressing to entries in the local shows as confidence increases.
In 2009 the Club entry was placed as Commended at Holker Garden Festival, whilst members achieved various high grades in other areas. At the Lakeland Rose Show the Club Entry gained first.
Members excelled at Cartmel Agricltural Show, staging several entries in each class of the Floral Art Competition. In the club class taking 1st and Best in Show. In two other classes two further 1st were gained. This is the local show and the club is pleased to give whole hearted support.
The Club has members who demonstrate, the most notable being David Ryland, who was the first South Cumbrian National Demonstrator and is, currently, Chairman of The North West Area of NAFAS.
Joan Bentley is held in high esteem and has guided club members in preparation for a Medieval flower Festival at Cartmel Priory between 11 - 15 September 2009. Club members, Priory flower ladies and many other flower arrangers from the surrounding areas have worked together to produce an outstanding Festival. A great deal of hard work went into the preparation but also much fun and laughter.
