HORWICH FLORAL ART CLUB
Horwich Floral Art Club had its inaugural meeting in December 1964 and is the second largest Club in the North West Area of NAFAS boasting at present 158 members and 14 Honorary Members. Subscription for the year 2009/10 is £26 and the Visitor Fee is £4 per visit. Subscriptions are renewable on the 1st December each year.
Club meetings are monthly held at St Joseph’s RC School Hall, Chorley New Road, Horwich – the first Wednesday in each month (except January when it is the second Wednesday) commencing at 7.30pm. There is no meeting in August. Local, Area and National Demonstrators are invited to entertain the members and usually complete between five and seven exhibits during the evening which are raffled for the lucky winners to enjoy at home. The evening usually ends around 9.30pm.
The Club is led by a President, Chairman and dedicated Committee who also meet monthly and work tirelessly for the benefit of members. The Annual General Meeting takes place in November and is usually followed by food and entertainment!
During the year the Club undertakes and participates in Festivals and Shows within the Area and Nationally, Church Flower Festivals being very popular. In 2010 we are organising or helping at three flower festivals, May at Christ Church, Charnock Richard, Chorley, in June our own Horwich Parish Church and in July we are helping St. Peters, Hindley, with their by annual festival. We also frequently organise trips to Gardens, Festivals or Shows and support The North West Area events as appropriate.
Various workshops are also organised throughout the year in order to provide the members with “hands on” experience and these have proved to be fun and enjoyable for all who attend. Classes such as floristry, beadwork, craft and Christmas have all been fully subscribed over the last 12 months.
We have a team of members who voluntarily arrange flowers at the local Hospice in Bolton on a rota basis and enjoy sharing their love of flowers and helping the Charity.
