Parbold & District Flower Club
Welcome to Parbold & District Flower Club’s web site.
It’s the love of flowers and the many ways they can be artistically presented that never fails to amaze those who join us for our monthly club demonstrations. Our member’s enthusiasm still flourishes today 40 years since the club was started on the 18th March 1970.
If you would like to visit us we hold monthly meetings at Parbold W.I. Hall, The Common, Parbold, Lancashire*– you are most welcome. (However please could you give our Secretary Eileen Martin a call prior (01704 893124) - so she can check we have enough seats available.) The best months to visit are April, May, June & July. Our Visitor’s fee is just £6.
Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 1.30pm for 1.45pm start. No meetings are held in January, August & December. Membership is restricted to 110 members at present with a waiting list, which you are welcome to join. Subscription fee is just £34 annually.
Our president is Shirley Whittaker. We have a committee of ten which I'd like to introduce to you, our Chairman is Marie Hitchen, Secretary is Eileen Martin and Treasurer is Dorothy Rickard.
Programme Secretary is Winifred Thomson a very experienced flower arranger within our team. The publication section where you can buy the latest official NAFAS magazine the Flower Arranger is run by Yvonne Hargreaves. Diaries & calendars are also available from her.
There is opportunity for a friendly chat before the demo and during the break with a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits provided by Maureen Fish, Rita Carmichael & Ann Hilton. Pauline Readett keeps track of any of our members who are ill and in need of our get well wishes.
The demonstrators who come to the club are all NAFAS trained to either area or national level. They demonstrate approx 5 arrangements each meeting, all linked to their chosen title for the afternoon and the accompanying talk is usually really amusing and informative. The lovely floral designs are raffled off at the meeting – making lots of lucky winners with the most wonderful flower arrangements to take home.
The highlight of the year is undoubtedly the Gala Evening we hold to boost money for our annual charity donation. It’s held at Mawdesley Village Hall, our next will be on 16th November 2010 with the renowned James Burnside from Northern Ireland. What a night that promises to be!
Our club also participates in local events, in 2009 we had a team of members from the club taking part in Christmastide at Lytham Hall which proved a huge success.
We are a club who likes to be busy! During May 2009 we arranged a club visit to NAFAS 50th Anniversary at Westminster Abbey and in July we held our annual Strawberry Tea in one of member’s gardens were we raised £1500 for Breast Cancer. All co-ordinated by our Ticket Secretary Sheila Mitchell and members of the Committee. We've lots planned for 2010 including a Coffee Morning in March, Strawberry Tea in July and a very special 40th Anniversary Lunch on the 11th August at Shaw Hill Golf & Country Club, which is open to Members and their friends.
