Rainford Flower Club
About us:
Our club was founded in 1976 by Mrs Noreen Richards (now deceased) and in 2011 we celebrate our 35th anniversary. We meet at 7:30pm every 2nd Thursday of the month, except January and August, in the Church Hall, Church Road, Rainford.
Our members have staged a Flower Festival for all four of the churches in Rainford: All Saints Parish Church, Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the Methodist Church, and the United Reformed Church, which was staged by Rainford Flower Clubs Junior members. As far as we are aware this has never been done by Junior Clubs in The North West Area before.
We are a friendly hard working club and are always looking for new members, booking top class demonstrators every month. We can't get it over to people that it's not hands-on flower arranging on the night, its relaxing and enjoying flower arranging at its best. We have the usual raffle, publications table, plants and cuttings, book stall and a bric-a-brac table. Also the Sales table for members flower arranging requirements plus some arrangements that are already prepared for you to buy.
Our team have been involved with all the big flower festivals over the years, including Stonyhurst, Hoghton Towers, Scarisbrick Hall and Lytham Hall etc. We staged an Edwardian theme display in our local village hall for its centenary with proceeds going towards the refurbishment - so we haven't exactly been idle have we! After staging the lovely Dining Room at Lytham Hall we were asked to stage ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ in the original Tea-Room at Hoghton Tower. It was a massive challenge but we buckled to and were so proud of our finished factory, the effort from our ladies well worthwhile. The whole Festival was superb and will be spoken about for years to come.
Norma Cunliffe and Beth Robinson are leaders of our very popular Junior Flower club which meets on the 1st Tuesday of every month in the United Reformed Church Hall, Higher Lane, Rainford at 7pm, where we teach flower arranging and crafts. They also have been involved with the afore-mentioned festivals and look forward to Hoghton Towers later this year.
Rainford Flower Club is holding an open meeting on Thursday 8th December at 7:30pm¸the demonstration by Tom Hodge is titled ‘Magic of Christmas’. Tickets cost £5.00 and include tea and hot mince pies. We’ll have two big raffles and sales table, there’s ample parking plus another one just up the road if it’s needed. The hall is all on the ground level so there are no steps to be negotiated.
