Whitehaven Flower Club

About us:

Whitehaven Flower arrangement Society was established over 45 years ago, and recently celebrated it’s Sapphire anniversary.  We have over 80 members who meet once a month, and anyone with a love of flowers (or a desire to know more) is welcome. It is important to know that you do not need to be a flower arranger to attend.  Some members / visitors attend to watch the demonstrations and meet new friends.

We are known to be a friendly club with members of all ages, ensuring our guests and new members receive the warm welcome and genuine hospitality that West Cumbria is famous for.

In keeping with the spirit of NAFAS, The Whitehaven Flower Club supports our local community by participating in many annual events where flowers and our member’s creative talents can be enjoyed. Our club usually stages at least one or two Flower festivals for local churches each year.

More recently some of our members have had success at shows (local and National level) including Chelsea Flower Show and Carlisle show at Bitts Park.

Joan Mossop designs the flowers for the classical concerts at the Rosehill Theatre. In addition, Janice Timmington provides the hospital service at The West Cumberland hospital during  the year. This includes flowers throughout the year, the remembrance service for baby deaths, and a Christmas tree in both the hospital foyer and chapel.

Many local weddings have been adorned by our member’s beautiful handiwork over the years.  We usually meet at St St Beghs Social Club, Coach Rd, Whitehaven between 2pm – 4pm on the second Friday of each month in Jan, Mar, April, May, Aug, Sept and October. If you do not have one of our current programmes, please contact the club to confirm the current details.

There is also an opportunity to attend two spectacular gala night demonstrations at The Rosehill Theatre locally (June and November) and a club outing (usually July or Aug) which is generally a trip to a flower show or special garden. Many members attend for a happy Christmas lunch in December. These event charged extra at nominal cost.  Please see the events calendar for what is on in 2009 / 2010.

We regualarly attend the fun workshops organsied by the Area which are a varied mix of new techniques and floral or craft skills which enhances our love of flowers.

Subscription : £10.00 per year (which includes up to 7 demonstrations or talks at St Beghs). Non-members are very welcome to attend and will pay £2.00 on the door each visit. The beautiful fresh arrangements are raffled at the end of each meeting. A Sales Table is available at each meeting for reasonably priced flower arranging accessories.

We are keen to promote our club to any young person or school who may be interested in learning more about this useful and creative interest
