The North West Area has won yet another Gold Medal!

Fast on the heels of our success at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and only five weeks before the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park our Chairman Gillian Platt received an email from the RHS inviting The North West Area to stage a design at this year’s show. A decision was made to take up the challenge and an exhibit entitled ‘A Voyage to Never- Never Land’ was quickly created by Pat Armstrong, Muir Simpson, Viv Hampson, Andrea Arrowsmith, Liz Holland and Gillian Platt with Don Billington assisting with the mechanics and transport.

The design was used to promote our Area Festival 'Magical Fairy Tales' at Hogton Tower in September. The team only had time for one full mock up and built the design on a shoestring budget so they were thrilled to be awarded a Gold Medal

Congratulations to the team!

The North West Area wins Gold at RHS Chelsea Flower Show!

The exhibit has been staged in the Grand Pavilion under the leadership of Ann Coulton, a very talented and successful flower arranger and competitor.  Ann says of her exhibit "The style of the design is contemporary, based on recycled materials.  The title is Wood Yew Waste and the inspiration sprang from the detritus that lies on the banks of the River Ribble, especially after the Spring tides, when there is the most beautiful driftwood to be found.  Sculpted and bleached by the tides, the shapes and textures of this wood inspired our central design.  We have created a fantasy tree sculpture incorporating plant material in subtle watery colours, evoking its source.  The design will be done in vintage colours, purples, lilacs, pinks, greys, greens, creams and browns, including hydrangeas, roses in antique shades, foxgloves, delphiniums and mosses.  The team will even be wearing waistcoats made of recycled plastic!"

2011 Show News Update: Urmston Floral Art club’s team were awarded a well deserved 1st at the Southport Flower Show in August for their exhibit 'Vintage'.  The team included Liz Holland, Tania Scott & Sheila Shaw.  At the same show Valerie Chown was awarded the Best in Show, and Margaret Whittaker was runner up.  Congratulations to each of them - as always The North West competitors showed their fantastic skills at this prestigious show.

The new festival at Chichely Hall in Buckinghamshire was excellent! The flowers were wonderful, and visitors were able to see continuous demonstrations by international designers, including Tom Hodge and Don Billington from The North West Area.  Club in the Park won the hearts of the visitors in the Land Art competition - the public chose the winner by putting a coin in a box, the box with the most coins won with all the coins going to charity, congratulations to Ann Coulton, Jean Daniels and Tom Hodge who represented Club in the Park.
