Clubs in the Junior Flower Clubs area
In the North West Area of NAFAS there are a number of Junior Flower Clubs, which all enjoy a strong following of enthusiastic members from ages 7 years to 17 years. They generally meet once a month for approx 2 hours. In contrast to Senior Flower Clubs the meetings tend to be run as teaching workshops for youngsters, each one of which complete their own project. These cover the full range of flower arranging from dried flowers to collage work, pressed flowers, and flower craft as well as working with fresh plant material.
In addition support and encouragement is offered to enter competitions at local and national shows and festivals. The Juniors have previously entered the Chelsea Show and the World Flower Show, winning many medals with their talent in this field. This year The North West Area are celebrating fifty years as an Area , the main celebration being 'Magical Fairy Tales', a spectacular Flower Festival to be held at Hoghton Tower, near Preston, and the Juniors are involved in making giant cups and saucers for the Alice in Wonderland fairy tale.
They are encouraged to enter the photographic competition held at National and Area level. A regional fun day is organised once a year when all the clubs meet together. The day starts with a demonstration with a special Christmas title and this is also the theme for the competition the children take part in. After a picnic lunch the afternoon is busily spent doing Christmas crafts e.g. making Christmas cards, crackers, tree decorations, calendars etc. After the judging of the competition, prizes and rewards are given to the Juniors followed by a visit from Father Christmas; a thoroughly enjoyable day is had by everyone.
Finally the Junior clubs provide a stimulating outlet for those who would wish to progress to senior membership in due course. The following are the Junior Clubs in our Area
